Understanding friction, lubrication and wear
This course is designed to help you overcome the problems of costs, failures, and maintenance and to give participants a full practical understanding of the principles and technology of lubrication. The course is presented as a five day course, and aimed at maintenance personnel and anyone concerned with the operation, maintenance or management of industrial plant, machinery, transport and other lubricant related disciplines. A one day introductory course on the same topics, is directed at plant operators, buyers, artisans and apprentices.
This one day SAIT course "Introduction to Wear & Materials", presented at an introductory level, is based on selected modules from the original three day "Understanding and Managing Wear" course, and is concerned with the operation, maintenance and design of plant and equipment, with special relevance to the selection and specification of wear resistant materials.
A one-day course covering the basic information surrounding oils. The origin and manufacture of oils, a basic understanding of oil specifications and performance criteria, the reason for different oils, and their functions are included in this course.
These one day seminars are presented during the year on topics of interest to tribology such as wear of materials, synthetics, bearings, gears, condition monitoring, failures.
The SAIT presents an international tribology conference every three years, with local and international guest speakers and authorities in the various fields of tribology. Proceedings from these conferences and the seminars are available from the SAIT.
Held annually between March and May, the AGM is an occasion for the President's Report and Financial Statements of the SAIT to be presented.
